What is tea?

Tea is a beverage made from the leaves of the plant called Camellia Sinensis. It is an evergreen which is related to the camellia plant.

It can grow up to be 30 ft. / 9.1 m. high, but when grown for cultivation purposes, it is usually pruned to stay between 3-5 ft. / 91-151 cm high.

Tea is native to China where it grew, unattended to, until it was discovered that it could give a better flavor to boiled water.

The legend says this about the discovery of tea:
Emperor Shen Nung, who was a scholar and herbalist in 2700 B.C., discovered tea while he was sipping hot water under a wild tea tree. There was a light wind and some of the wild tea tree's leaves floated into his cup. From the delicate aroma that arose, Shen Nung found his curiosity awaken and sipped it.

Thanks to the kindness of the wind and the curiosity of Shen Nung. On that day, tea was discovered!
